Ruto Empowers Youth: NYOTA's KSh 126M Capital for Growth
President Ruto empowers 5,040 youth with KSh 126M NYOTA capital in coastal counties. This initiative provides crucial startup funds and skills for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Ruto Empowers Youth Through NYOTA Initiative
President William Ruto's administration is making significant strides in youth empowerment, exemplified by the launch of the NYOTA Business Start-Up Capital programme. This initiative, recently rolled out in Malindi, aims to transform young Kenyans from job seekers into successful job creators, injecting vital capital and skills into the economy. The programme underlines a national commitment to fostering financial inclusion and stimulating youth-led enterprise across key regions.
A Boost for Coastal Youth
The NYOTA programme targets 5,040 young entrepreneurs across Lamu, Kilifi, and Tana River counties. A substantial KSh 126 million has been allocated as startup capital, reaching 60 wards in total, with Kilifi benefiting from 35 wards, Tana River 15, and Lamu 10. Each beneficiary is set to receive an initial KSh 25,000, with an additional KSh 25,000 in a second phase, doubling the total assistance to KSh 50,000 per participant. This phased funding structure ensures both accountability and sustained engagement for the emerging business leaders.
More Than Just Money: Skills and Accountability
Beyond financial injection, the 'Ruto Empowers' philosophy embedded in NYOTA emphasizes comprehensive preparation. Beneficiaries undergo structured business training designed to improve decision-making and mitigate the risks of early-stage business failure. This crucial training ensures that the capital provided is invested wisely in viable, income-generating activities aligned with local market opportunities. The use of mobile technology for capital disbursement further enhances traceability and reduces the risk of mismanagement, promoting transparency and sustainability.
Fostering an Entrepreneurial Mindset
NYOTA aligns with broader national efforts to integrate young people into formal credit systems, particularly those previously excluded. By providing the necessary tools, skills, and capital, the programme empowers youth to confidently build sustainable livelihoods. It's about cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset, teaching responsibility, and expanding opportunities for the next generation of business leaders. This holistic approach ensures that every shilling counts, paving the way for sustained economic growth from the grassroots.
